Oil on board, painted en plein air
h: 24 w: 30 d: 1 (cms).
A quiet trio of trees becomes a striking study in character and presence. Painted on location, this scene first caught my eye for its gentle light and layered textures - but the more I painted, the more a curious story emerged. The small, rounded tree at the centre feels warm and inviting, flanked by two larger, darker trees whose twisted forms lean inwards. Their looming presence casts an unexpected mood: protective or oppressive? Supportive or threatening? There’s a tension here - a subtle, almost human dynamic - that I didn’t plan but couldn’t ignore. It’s this quiet ambiguity that gives the painting its voice.

Oil on board, painted intuitively
h: 50 w: 60 d: 1 (cms).
A heavy sky presses over a landscape on the brink of change. Painted from memory and emotion, this piece captures the quiet drama of a familiar walk - one I’ve done many times with my dog. The foreground is alive with wild growth and jewel-toned vegetation, dancing with gestural marks and instinctive energy. Beyond a weathered fence, a golden field of wheat lies waiting - caught in that moment before the storm breaks or the sun returns. This is a painting about anticipation. Nature holding its breath. The harvest will come… but not yet.

acrylic on wood
h: 30 w: 30 d: 1 (cms).
A joyful burst of spring light, Soft the Sun captures the vitality of wild grasses and daisies swaying at the edge of a hedgerow. Painted expressively and intuitively in acrylics, this small piece invites the viewer to feel the warmth of the season and the hum of life within it. Loose marks and layered textures evoke the moment a butterfly hovers, or a bee dives deep into pollen - fleeting, gentle movements held in paint. It’s a celebration of nature’s quiet abundance, and the everyday magic found in the margins.
