I am primarily a painter of landscapes and flowers. These things call to me, particularly when the place and the timing are right and most importantly when the light is right. In these moments it is great to have paper and paints to hand.

Where possible I begin each painting and drawing outside. Refinements are made later indoors when the work has had time to settle.

My approach is largely intuitive and no two paintings are the same.

I love the fluidity of watercolour and most work begins with this wonderful medium. Sometimes that's enough. At other times the work is set aside for a while and then built up into layers using inks and pastels. 

It's impossible to replicate the immense beauty that is to be found in the natural world. My hope is to record the impression it makes on me and to capture a little of its fleeting beauty. When that feels right, I am very content.
