Statement

For many years my art career mainly concerned officially commissioned military work for the UK's armed forces and for museums at home and worldwide.  Some are owned by members of the Royal Family and a very large series was commissioned by the late Sultan of Oman featuring all his armed services and police.

Now I paint people and places in impressionist, realism and contemporary styles and in several mediums.  Through my love of painting people from cultures different to that of the UK, I strive to suggest a story for the viewer beyond the obvious.  My leaning towards marine art as one of my specialities is, I believe, somewhat genetic since my maternal grandfather was an accomplished marine artist.  I seem unable to suppress it!

Along side my own art practice, I much enjoy mentoring young artists and have been the subject of GCSE and A Level on several occasions.

Biography

I have exhibited on many occasions with the RSMA, RBA, ROI, ING Discerning Eye, Chelsea Art Society, SWA and others and have been very lucky to have won several awards over the years and some highlights have been seeing my work used in a West End play and in television dramas (such as ‘A Tough of Frost’), the subject of study by GCSE and A level students, a very large series of paintings for the recently deceased HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, profiled by BBC’s ‘Woman’s Hour’ and The Daily Telegraph, The Times, and overseas press and radio.

In 2011 I was the guest speaker at the Annual awards to art students by the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers.

I was very honoured to be the first woman and non-Armed Forces person to Chair of the Armed Forces Art Society which included a number of very well-known artists such as David Shepherd, Sir Michael Noakes and Ken Howard.

I am a Member of the United Society of Artists, Painters Fine Art Society and others and have served on many committees.  I judge and helps with exhibitions, write articles on art as a hobby or profession and help young artists who approach me.
